Tactics Ogre is the standard that every tactical RPG since has been measured against. Yasumi Matsuno's 1995 Quest release builds its isometric grid combat around a branching civil war narrative where the choices the player makes — including which soldiers live and die — determine which of the story's paths unfolds. Ethnic conflict, political betrayal, and moral ambiguity handled with more sophistication than anything else on the platform. It was never officially released in the West on Super Famicom. Most Western players first encountered it via the PSP remake in 2010, fifteen years after this cartridge shipped. The original SFC version is the game as Matsuno designed it, before any revisions.
