Sangokushi IV is Koei's fourth entry in their Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategy series, ported to PS1 from the PC original. The Sangokushi franchise is one of Koei's defining works — grand-scale historical strategy set during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China, with hundreds of officers to recruit, territories to conquer, and diplomatic relationships to manage. The PS1 version brought Koei's deep PC strategy experience to console audiences in Japan. Like most Sangokushi entries of this era it never received a Western release on PS1, remaining a Japan exclusive for console players.
