The original Pokémon Stadium is a Japan-exclusive N64 release that Western audiences never received — an important distinction that confuses many collectors. Released in Japan in 1998, it featured 3D battles for 42 selectable Pokémon and predates the more complete Stadium title that Western markets received. When the fuller Stadium game launched in Japan as Pokémon Stadium 2, the West received it simply as Pokémon Stadium — effectively skipping this first entry entirely. The original Japanese Stadium is therefore a genuinely exclusive release with no Western equivalent, representing the very first time Pokémon appeared in 3D on a home console.
