Torneko no Daibouken 2 is the PS1 sequel to the Super Famicom roguelike that launched the Mystery Dungeon franchise, developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix in 1999. It expanded on the original's formula with more dungeon variety, new items and traps, and a deeper progression system while keeping the permadeath and procedural generation that define the series. The Mystery Dungeon franchise would go on to spawn Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and numerous other spin-offs, but Torneko remains the original thread. This PS1 entry never left Japan.
