A fishing RPG in the truest sense, Umi no Nushi Tsuri 2 (roughly “Ocean Master Fishing 2”) is the second entry in the sea-fishing branch of Victor Interactive Software’s beloved ぬし釣り series, released in Japan on July 10, 1998. The goal is to earn the respect of your master fisherman father by tracking down and landing the legendary “Nushi” — the mythical boss creature lurking somewhere in the open ocean. To get there, you fish to earn money, sell your catch to buy better gear, battle wildlife to gain experience, and gradually unlock new coastal and deep-sea areas to explore.

Five distinct fishing methods are available, from shore casting and rock fishing to deep-sea trolling, with over 50 species of marine life to encounter including sailfish, moray eels, and giant rays. The game also carries over the “Uocchi” fish-raising mode from the previous entry, now with four tanks and the ability to trade or fuse fish with friends via Game Boy Link Cable. The entire ぬし釣り series was never released outside Japan, making this a genuine import-only title with no Western equivalent.
