Tactics Ogre is the standard that every tactical RPG since has been measured against. Yasumi Matsuno's 1995 Quest release builds its isometric grid combat around a branching civil war narrative where the choices the player makes determine which of the story's paths unfolds. Ethnic conflict, political betrayal, and moral ambiguity handled with more sophistication than anything else on the platform. Never officially released in the West on Super Famicom — the PSP remake in 2010 was most Western players' first encounter. The SFC original is the game before any revisions.
